The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is scheduled to announce the 2026 economics prize on 12 October. Readers following the news should check the Nobel Prize’s official economics page for the announcement and the Academy’s citation; no laureate has been named yet.
When the 2026 economics prize announcement is due
The announcement is scheduled for Monday, 12 October. The supplied Nobel Prize page is the official place to check for the current-year listing and announcement time. Its timing should be confirmed there against the latest official page; no specific hour is established by the information available.
The next milestone is the Academy’s announcement. Until it publishes the laureate or laureates, the 2026 result remains unknown.
What the economics prize recognises
The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel recognises contributions to economic sciences. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences selects the laureate or laureates and publishes the prize citation, which states the recognised contribution.
That citation will provide the clearest explanation of why the recipient was chosen. Background on the award and its past laureates is also available through the Nobel Prize’s economics pages.
How it differs from the original Nobel prizes
The economics award is formally named the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. It was established by Sweden’s central bank in 1968 and first awarded in 1969. It is administered alongside the Nobel prizes, but it was not one of the original prizes established through Alfred Nobel’s will.
The Academy’s announcement follows its own selection process. The official citation and Nobel Prize background pages will let readers distinguish the announced result from speculation ahead of the decision.
Where to check the official result
Nobel Prize Outreach’s economics prize page is the place to look for the 2026 announcement and related prize information. After the Academy names the laureate or laureates, readers can check that page for the official citation and background details.
The key update to watch for is the Academy’s published announcement on 12 October. Until then, there is no confirmed 2026 laureate.
