Hull residents can shape Holderness Road on 3 September

Hull residents, businesses and visitors can attend a free public consultation at Hull Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street, on Thursday 3 September from 12pm to 4.30pm. The session is open to the public and concerns proposed updates to the Holderness Road West Conservation Area.

People who live, work, own property or socialise in the affected area are invited to respond. The wider Hull City Council consultation remains open until Sunday 27 September, so those unable to attend the Guildhall session can still submit comments.

When and where to attend

The council has not provided separate booking, transport or accessibility information for the session.

Which streets and properties are covered

The conservation area extends along Holderness Road from the crossroads with Mount Pleasant to the junction with Witham and Clarence Street. It also includes sections of side streets leading from Holderness Road.

The proposals therefore concern residents, businesses, visitors, property owners and landowners within that area. They follow a new survey carried out as part of Hull City Council’s strategic review of the city’s 27 conservation areas.

According to the council, the survey reaffirmed the area’s special interest because of its collection of late Victorian and Edwardian commercial, industrial and residential buildings along Holderness Road and its side streets.

What visitors can review at the Guildhall

Attendees can examine the proposed character appraisal and management plan and share their views directly. The documents identify notable architectural features and buildings of particular interest, while also providing guidance relevant to future developments and planning applications.

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for economic renewal and housing, said the review is intended to maintain Hull’s history and heritage while ensuring buildings remain suitable for modern use. He encouraged people who live, work or socialise in the area to contribute to proposals that will help shape its future.

Anyone unable to attend on 3 September can respond through the Holderness Road West Conservation Area page on Your Say Hull. The consultation document is also available to view at the Guildhall reception.
