Encounter Festival 2026: Free arts and light show coming to Preston

Preston city centre will become an open-air stage on Saturday, 19 September 2026, when Encounter Festival returns to The Harris Quarter and surrounding streets. A separate Horrockses-themed commission has been developed with Josh from Wolf Entertainments. It will bring designs associated with the well-known Preston label to life as The Harris launches its Horrockses Fashions 80th-anniversary exhibition on the same day.

Arachnobot and the Torchlight Procession

Tim Davies Design’s Arachnobot is due to roam the city centre throughout the day and into the evening. Its appearances will lead into the festival’s main evening spectacle, when the Torchlight Procession weaves through central Preston.

More than 500 people are expected to take part in the procession, filling the streets with music, dancing and light. Although the procession is confirmed as an evening event, no precise start time or route has been included in the published preview.
