A 69-year-old man died after a crash on Johnston Avenue in Dundee on Friday, 11 September 2026. Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage as officers work to establish the circumstances.
The crash happened at around 8.10am between Strathmore Street and Clepington Road and involved a silver Hyundai IX35. Emergency services attended, and the driver was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A 63-year-old woman, who was a passenger, was also taken to hospital to be checked over, according to Police Scotland’s appeal. The account describes different outcomes for the two occupants: it confirms the driver’s death and says the passenger attended hospital for checks, without providing a further update on her condition.
Johnston Avenue reopened on Friday
The road was closed for crash investigation work and reopened at around 12.15pm on Friday, approximately four hours after the reported crash time.
For people following the incident because of the road closure, the police account confirms that the closure ended that day. The outstanding request is for evidence about what happened earlier that morning.
The location specified in the appeal is the stretch of Johnston Avenue between Strathmore Street and Clepington Road. Those two junctions, together with the approximate time and vehicle description, give witnesses and motorists the details needed to identify whether their observations or recordings may be relevant.

Family privacy and ongoing enquiries
Sergeant Brian McEwen expressed sympathy for the man’s family and said they had asked for privacy at a very difficult time.
He said enquiries were continuing to establish the full circumstances. The appeal identifies the vehicle involved but does not state a cause for the crash or assign responsibility.
Police are asking anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to officers to get in touch. The separate request for dashcam footage also covers motorists who were driving in the area at the time and may have recorded something that could assist.
Witness information and dashcam footage
Drivers checking recordings should use the details set out in the appeal: Johnston Avenue, between Strathmore Street and Clepington Road, at around 8.10am on Friday, 11 September 2026. The vehicle was a silver Hyundai IX35.
The request to check footage is not limited to people who can already describe the crash as eyewitnesses. Officers have also asked drivers to review what their cameras captured and contact police if it contains something useful to the investigation.
Anyone with information or footage that could assist should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0627 of Friday, 11 September 2026.
