A68 reopens after fatal crash near St Boswells

A 38-year-old man has died after a three-vehicle crash on the A68 near St. Boswells in the Scottish Borders.

The collision happened at about 9pm on Saturday, 12 September. Emergency services attended, but the driver of a white Ford Transit later died in hospital. Police Scotland said his family has been informed.

The A68 was closed overnight to allow collision investigators to work at the scene and reopened at about 4.40am on Sunday, 13 September. The force is appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage as inquiries continue.

Three vehicles involved in the collision

The crash involved a white Ford Transit, a green Suzuki SX4 and a white Honda ZR-V.

The 62-year-old woman driving the Suzuki suffered a serious injury. The 66-year-old man driving the Honda sustained minor injuries.

Police have not released further details about how the collision happened or the circumstances leading up to it. The investigation remains ongoing on the A68 near St. Boswells.

Police appeal for witnesses and dash-cam footage

Police Scotland is asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or who saw any of the three vehicles before the collision, to contact officers.

Drivers who were in the area at the time are also being asked to review any dash-cam recordings that may have captured footage relevant to the investigation. Police have not specified a wider timeframe or route section beyond the area near St. Boswells.

Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died at this extremely difficult time.”

He added that officers wanted to hear from people who saw the vehicles before the collision and from anyone whose dash-cam footage could assist their inquiries.

A68 road closure and current status

The road closure was put in place for collision investigation work after the crash on Saturday night. Police Scotland said the A68 reopened around 4.40am on Sunday, 13 September.

The reopening means the overnight closure has ended, but it does not indicate that the investigation has concluded. Police have not announced any further traffic restrictions or released further information about the cause of the collision.
