Stafford Family Fun Days: two themed Tuesdays in August

Two Tuesdays at Staffordshire History Centre will take families from vintage motoring to the traditional British seaside. The Family Fun Days will be held on 18 and 25 August at the centre on Eastgate Street, Stafford, with separate programmes of crafts, games and activities for children and their families.

Staffordshire County Council has confirmed the dates and venue. It has not published event times, admission prices, booking arrangements, transport guidance or accessibility information in its announcement.

A 1924 Rolls-Royce leads the transport day

The first Family Fun Day, on Tuesday 18 August, will focus on transport. Two vintage vehicles are due to visit the Staffordshire History Centre, and families will have an opportunity to sit inside a 1924 Duchess Rolls-Royce.

Games, challenges, activities and craft sessions will run alongside the vehicle displays. The programme gives children several ways to explore the transport theme rather than limiting the day to viewing the cars.

Seaside stories and dressing up arrive on 25 August

Stafford Library will join the History Centre for a beach-themed day on Tuesday 25 August. The programme includes seaside crafts, story times, dressing-up activities and family trails.

The theme connects directly with the centre’s current Leek to Llandudno exhibition. That display looks at the traditional seaside holiday and the long-standing association between North Staffordshire residents and trips to the Welsh coastal town.

Exhibition features include seaside objects, a ticket-stamping trail and a toy ice cream stand for children. The stand is an activity feature rather than a food outlet.

Local history remains part of both visits

Families attending either activity day can also explore the wider Staffordshire History Centre. Staff and volunteers help visitors begin family-history research and look for information about their ancestors, making the venue relevant to adults interested in genealogy as well as children joining the themed activities.

The Eastgate Street centre opened in November 2024. According to Staffordshire County Council, it has since welcomed more than 28,000 visitors for exhibitions, local-history exploration and family-tree research.

Hayley Coles, the council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, said the programme combines activities with opportunities to learn about the county’s past.

Planning a visit to Eastgate Street

Both confirmed activity days are intended for families and take place at Staffordshire History Centre on Eastgate Street in Stafford. The transport programme is scheduled for 18 August, followed by the beach-themed collaboration with Stafford Library on 25 August.
