Royal Philharmonic heads to Harlow Proms on 19 September

Harlow residents hoping to hear the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra can mark Saturday 19 September in their calendars. The orchestra will perform at Proms in the Park at the newly rebuilt Harlow Town Park bandstand.

The event is aimed at residents interested in seeing a major orchestral performance at the restored local landmark. Harlow Council’s announcement confirms the date, performer and venue, but it does not provide a start time, ticket price, booking arrangements or transport information.

Proms in the Park arrives at Harlow’s rebuilt bandstand

Proms in the Park will be one of the first major concerts staged at the new bandstand following its completion in August. The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra is the confirmed performer, although further programme details have not been included in the council’s announcement.

The concert follows the bandstand’s immediate debut during the Bank Holiday weekend, when it is due to take centre stage for the return of the Harlow Town Show. Together, the two events show how quickly the venue is moving from construction site to working performance space.

A larger stage built for major performances

The replacement bandstand has a significantly larger stage than the structure destroyed by fire in September 2025. Harlow Council says the stage is fully accessible and supported by new backstage facilities, along with modern sound, lighting and power infrastructure.

Its design links the former landmark with its replacement. Original bricks recovered from the old bandstand have been built into the new structure, alongside natural stone, a steel frontage and a living green roof.

Those changes give Harlow Town Park a venue designed to accommodate concerts, performances and community events in the centre of the town. For the September concert, the clearest practical change is that the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will be performing on a purpose-built stage completed only weeks earlier.

Rebuilt less than a year after the fire

The original bandstand was destroyed in September 2025. Council leader Dan Swords pledged the following morning that it would be rebuilt in time for summer 2026, with a larger and more ambitious replacement.

Residents subsequently helped shape the designs, planning permission was secured and construction began. The full process was completed in less than a year, allowing music and community events to return to the Town Park during the summer promised by the council.

Swords described the finished structure as capable of hosting major events while serving as a new landmark for the park. Its first weeks will now test that ambition through the Town Show and the orchestra’s September appearance.
