Rotherham residents face four-figure fly-tip bills

Two Eastwood residents have each been ordered to pay £1,177 after failing to attend formal interviews linked to a fly-tipping investigation in Rotherham.

Rostislav Pecha and Helena Pechova were prosecuted separately by Rotherham Council at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on 29 July 2026. Neither defendant appeared at the hearing.

Household waste found on Aldwarke Lane

The investigation began after council officers discovered a large fly-tip on Aldwarke Lane on 6 January. An inspection found about 23 black bags containing household food and packaging waste.

Officers also recovered documents connecting the discarded material to addresses associated with Pecha and Pechova. The source does not state that either resident was prosecuted for depositing the waste; the court cases concerned their failure to attend interviews required under the Environment Act 1995.

Repeated interview requests went unanswered

Both residents were invited to formal interviews as part of the council’s investigation. When they did not respond, officers sent further requests, including letters delivered by hand.

Rotherham Council said neither resident attended an interview or contacted its officers despite those repeated approaches. The magistrates ordered each defendant to pay a total of £1,177.

Council warns of further enforcement

Councillor Sarah Allen, the council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said cooperation is required when notices are issued during environmental investigations. She added that the authority would continue pursuing people who disregard environmental laws.
